2009 Wrap Up

For every new year I create a new folder to contain all of my creative output.  It’s a strangely sentimental thing for me, and I always end up spending at least a few hours browsing through the ending year’s files.

There are quite a few projects that are waiting to be added to both this site and my portfolio.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • ChuckKellySalonSpa.comDesign & Development – A Flash-based website for Chuck Kelly’s Gulfport salon.
  • BuildingStudios.comDesign & Development – A simple site built upon Wordpress for Baton Rouge-based sound recording/production company The Building Studios.
  • Vinnies.orgDesign & Development – A Joomla! site for the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marin County.
  • Neverthirstwater.orgDesign & Development – Another Joomla! site built for Neverthirst, a charitable organization working to bring clean drinking water to the world.

Rules for Creation 2010

This year, while browsing through commercial projects and personal doodles, I began thinking about where I want to go from here.  It’s a whole new year and a perfect opportunity to adopt a new set of rules to live by.  Or, in this case, rules to create by.

The Rules:

  • No physical products, with the exception of those that do exponentially — and measurably — more good than they cost.
  • No products that make a person’s life easier, only those that make people’s lives distinctly better.
  • No incremental improvements to existing products.
  • Passion projects and creative outlets allowed so long as they come to some kind of fruition.
  • No small ideas.

It’s my hope that by following these self-imposed guidelines, I’ll be able to develop more meaningful and positive projects in 2010.

No physical products, with the exception of those that do exponentially — and measurably — more good than they cost. No products that make a person’s life easier, only those that make people’s lives distinctly better. No incremental improvements to existing products. Passion projects and creative outlets allowed so long as they come to some kind of tangible conclusion. No small ideas.

Kudos to the rules. They rule. Hope they’re coming along nicely.

Be well, bud!
